Reflexology is a traditional healing art, based on the principle that areas in the feet and hands correspond to all glands, organs and parts of the body. Applying pressure to these points may bring about a state of balance and deep relaxation, which re-vitalises, detoxifies and encourages the body to heal itself.
Whether it is to help with a specific condition, as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle or for a one-off relaxation treat, reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy, suitable for all ages. It may help with a range of conditions including:
- Relaxation and general well being
- Stress and anxiety
- Fertility issues, pre and post-natal care
- Hormone imbalances
- Headaches and migraines
- Digestive problems
- Muscular, skeletal and joint pain
- Allergies and skin conditions
- Poor circulation and water retention
- Sleeping disorders
- Blood sugar disorders
- Mental health issues
- Long term debilitating illnesses
- Disabling neurological conditions
Reflexology can be an excellent therapy for all stages of fertility and specialist training in this area and has had positive results with many clients. Fertility reflexology may help both men and women to reach their optimum health for conception. It can reduce both physical and emotional stress, detoxifiy and encourage the body to heal itself. It can be used in conjunction with fertility treatments such as IUI and IVF.
Pregnancy reflexology is a non-invasive treatment, which eases the pressure on the body during pregnancy. It may help balance hormones and provide relief from symptoms such as morning sickness, tiredness, backache, constipation, circulatory problems (such as swollen ankles) and pelvic pain. It can be used to induce and support labour.
Post-natal reflexology may encourage mothers to recover both physically and emotionally after the birth; re-balancing the body and increasing energy levels.
Stress and related conditions
Today’s demanding lifestyles can build up stress and tension in the body and mind. Stress manifests itself in the body in many ways; for example tension in the back and shoulders, headaches and digestive problems. Sometimes it can result in panic attacks and depression. In fact it is estimated that up to 75% of today’s diseases are attributable to stress and tension.
For some people, reflexology is an extremely effective way of counteracting the long-term effects of stress and re-balancing the body. It can provide a deep sense of relaxation. It can calm both body and mind releasing internal tensions, encouraging the body to heal itself and cope better on a physical, mental and emotional level.
